For the lesson plan, we had to make a lesson that incorporates a Web 2.0 tool. It was very interesting to see how many Web 2.0 tools are out there and how many could be used for lessons. There are a lot out there that save time and promote creativity. I chose to use a timeline tool because in teaching history, it is important that students know important events, and their relative occurrence so they can examine causes and effects of historical events. The timeline tool I found was very easy to use and is something I could use in the future to make for students or to make into a project for students to do.

Students will read the assigned section in their textbook or article silently and then in their groups they will construct an Xtimeline that will later be used as part of a Wiki page that they will construct.
Assessment
Formative: Students will have worked in groups to complete an Xtimeline detailing the causes of the decline of the Roman Empire.
Summative: Students will have created a Wiki page with their Xtimeline embedded that explains the causes of the decline of the Roman Empire.
Lesson Closure: Full class discussion about what students learned about the decline of the Roman empire.
Justification for Web 2.0 Tool
Xtimeline allows students to create online timelines. The timelines are very easy to construct compared to traditional computer tools and are much neater and available online compared to pen and paper timelines. The timeline can also be shared with classmates or posted online for collaboration and provides students with an excellent study tool. For this project, Xtimeline allows students to organize their information in chronological order to better understand the events leading up to the fall of Rome.
